Match 19 of the FIFA World Cup 2022 saw Ecuador take on Netherlands who have won their opening matches, The Qatar team were keeping a close eye on this match, as they were pitching for Ecuador to beat the Dutch, to stand any chance of making it to the round of 16. However, that didn’t happen as the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

Netherlands kicked off the game, and they had good ball possession for the first several minutes. Cody Gakpo’s swift goal gave Netherlands an early lead just six minutes into the first half, causing an immediate catastrophe for Ecuador. The surprising early strike stuns Ecuador as the Dutch maintain their domination. In the 24th minute, M. Caicedo attempted to score Ecuador’s first goal but narrowly missed the goal.

Ennar At 32 minutes, Valencia takes a shot on goal but the goaltender saves it, giving his team a corner. The rest of the first half is dominated by South Americans in terms of ball possession. The much-needed equalizer is scored by Valencia after 40 minutes when his shot from a corner is deflected into the Dutch goal by the post. Ecuador immediately celebrates.

However, the linesman raises his flag to indicate an offside, and the VAR confirms the offside after reviewing the video. The referee decides to continue the game despite the protests and displeasure of the Ecuadorian squad members after the goal is disallowed. In the additional five minutes of time, Valencia tries to score again but fails. The Dutch are leading Ecuador 1-0 as the referee signals the end of the first half. Timber (Netherlands) also attempts but is unsuccessful.

Ennar Valencia finally scores a legitimate goal in the 49th minute to tie the score 1-1 for Ecuador just four minutes into the second half of the game. Netherlands responds by making two tries to increase the lead that shows promise. Van Dijk deflects the first shot, and the second one hits the woodwork. 65 minutes have passed, and the scores are still tied at one each.

As the game inevitably draws to a close, the competition is currently back and forth, with both teams making valiant efforts to gain a match-winning advantage. Gakpo rushes into the Ecuadorian box after the 75th minute and attempts to chip the ball over the advancing goalie, but misses the goal as the linesman raises the flag to indicate an offside as well. The Netherlands nearly lost that one.

After 80 minutes, the Netherlands are starting to lose their composure and the ball to Ecuador as the latter’s repeated attacks catch the former in a cycle of defenses. They play strong defense but once again give it away cheaply, forcing them to stop the counter. Valencia is taken off the field at 90 minutes due to a potential injury, and Kevin Rodriguez is inserted in his place. Despite the additional six minutes of time, the score remained the same as both teams battled to a 1-1 draw.

Both teams are currently in a strong position to advance to the round of 16, ending Qatar’s prospects of qualifying for the knockout rounds by expecting that the Netherlands would lose this game.
