The hosts Qatar rolled the ball to start play in Game 18 of the FIFA World Cup 2022 vs Senegal. Both sides needed a victory because they had lost their previous games. For the first few minutes, Qatar did a good job of maintaining possession, making smart passes around their own half. However, Senegal quickly gained possession after intercepting a lofted pass from Qatar. Ismaila Sarr, a forward, got the ball into the Qatar box from the right and fired at the near post into the side netting for their first attempt in the fourth minute.

Ismaila Sarr’s spectacular shot is successfully blocked by the Qatar defense lineup. After another try, goalkeeper Ismail Jakobs similarly succeeds in keeping the ball in his possession before clearing it away. Senegal had definitely been placed under strain by Qatar, who had numerous opportunities to cross the ball and put pressure on the opposition. However, a corner for Senegal was misunderstood by the Qatar goalie, who rushed in, and clearance went directly in the Senegal player’s head, who fortunately missed the target. As a result, Qatar avoided an almost certain catastrophe.

Boulaye DIA scores the game’s opening goal after 41 minutes to give Senegal a 1-0 advantage over the hosts of Qatar. There wasn’t much action during the additional 8 minutes, save for Homam receiving a single yellow card. At the end of regulation, Senegal was leading Qatar 1-0.

Beginning with numerous shots on goal within the first five minutes of the second half, Senegal is clearly switching gears as they unleash an attack on Qatar. Senegal is keeping possession of the ball and producing numerous scoring opportunities, boosting their likelihood of extending the lead. Famara Diedhiou scores a header to give his team a 2-0 advantage after 48 minutes of play.

Almoez Ali’s low curling drive towards the far corner of the goal in the 63rd minute was Qatar’s finest effort to score, but Eduouard Mendy stretched across to make a fantastic save. A few replacements are made after that, and the game continues in the same manner until Mohammed Muntari finally scores the first goal for Qatar in the 78th minute, cutting the deficit to 1-2.

Cheikh Dieng’s third goal for Senegal in the 84th minute gives his team a 3-1 advantage, short-circuiting Qatar’s desire. In the 89th minute, Abdelkarim takes a free kick that just misses the Senegal goal. The match ends with Senegal leading Qatar 3-1 when the referee blows the final whistle, despite the 7 minutes of extra time.

This win ensures that Senegal are safely placed in the ranks for now. Qatar however, with two back-to-back loses, would be hoping that Ecuador beat Netherlands in their upcoming match to stay alive in this tournament. The hosts would like to go farther ahead in this tournament to give some joy to the home crowd.
