FIFA 2022 has started off with a victory for World No. 2 Belgium over Canada. In Group F at the FIFA World Cup 2022, Belgium and Morocco squared off in Match 27. In a startling turn of events, Morocco shockingly defeated Belgium 2-0 at Al Thumama Stadium.

After the referee blows the whistle to start the game, both teams launch attacks and counter attacks against each other in an effort to score the game’s first goal. Over ten minutes into the first half, Belgium attempted to continue its superiority over the Moroccans as Hazard Brother Eden, and Thorgan continued to combine for the Belgians. Achraf Hakimi ruins a chance by shooting a clear shot at goal over the crossbar. It was disappointing because the PSG star had a clear chance to start Morocco’s scoring.

Hakim Ziyech stunned Belgium with an incredible free-kick goal in the last seconds of the first half when he curled the ball in, which went past goalie Courtois and into the nets. This was Morocco’s first goal of the game. Tragically, while the crowd was roaring for their team and the entire team was celebrating, an offside by one of the Moroccans was caught on VAR. Much to the surprise and outrage of the Moroccan players and coach, the goal is disallowed. Both teams had a score of 0 at the end of the first half.

Both teams now begin the second half with 45 more minutes to affect the result of the game after a dramatic first half that had a stunning free-kick goal being stopped and no goals from either side. With thunderous applause from the crowd, Belgian star Romelu Lukaku is introduced to replace Meunier at the 81-minute mark. The Red Devils’ attack is being led by him, so the Moroccans must exercise extreme caution while he is on the field.

After the second half has been extended by five minutes, Belgium has come to terms with the gravity of the situation and is now scrambling to score the equalizer with just three minutes left before stoppage time. Morocco has a chance to take a corner kick during the last-second scuffles, but Belgium does well to prevent them from having another chance to score.

Morocco scored their second goal of the game two minutes into the extra period, giving them an unquestionable 2-0 lead against the Red Devils. Hakim Ziyech makes an exquisite pass, which Zakaria Aboukhlal transforms into a thunderous shot into the Belgian goal. Soon after, the referee blows his whistle to call an end to the tense game and Morocco’s fairytale victory.

In its second group match at the Qatar World Cup, Morocco defeated Roberto Martinez’s Belgium 2-0. Abdelhamid Sabiri and Abdelhamid Sabir’s goals helped Morocco to a renowned victory and go to the top of Group F. The loss appears to have prevented the Red Devils from earning an early spot in the FIFA World Cup knockout round.
