As England faced Wales in Match 35 of the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2022, Marcus Rashword emerged as the team’s savior by scoring two goals. Without conceding a goal throughout the game, England defeated Wales in a clean sweep victory. Rashford took the lead in the scoring with goals at 50 and 68 minutes after a spectacular free-kick to put himself in front of the competition for the Golden Boot as the tournament’s top scorer. A minute after Rashford’s opening goal, Phil Foden joined the celebration with another goal, bringing England’s final score to 3-0 and advancing them to the knockout rounds.
Wales was unable to keep up with the light-footed English in the first half, so England had the majority of ball control. Wales posed no threat to England in the first half since they were unable to generate any scoring opportunities. Wales’s attacks have always been repulsed by the solid English defense line. Wales has also had fewer scoring opportunities as a result of their lack of ball possession.
The second half began with England going into offensive mode and making early attempts to score after a very dull first half in which neither team managed to score. Marcus Rashford scored an amazing goal for England just five minutes into the second half after a superb free kick he took after Ampadu fouled him outside the penalty area. The shot deflected into the Wales goal with ease after catching the wind.
Just a minute later, tragedy struck as England’s midfielder Phil Foden created a great opportunity and scored the second goal for his team as England seized a 2-0 lead over the opponents while Wales was still recovering from the first bullet from England’s armory. The Englishmen’s second-half performance has been a terrific demonstration of their skills, as they are not allowing the ball to get away from them and are taking advantage of every opportunity that comes their way.
In the 61st minute, Ramsey fouled and was given a yellow card as Wales made frantic attempts to get their scoreboard going and had a chance to tie the British team. After a magnificent assist from Phillips, who rushed into the area with the ball, Rashford scored his second goal of the game 68 minutes into the game. Four minutes later, in minute 72, Rashford nearly completed his hat-trick after dribbling past a few Wales defenders and into the box, but Ward blocked his attempt at the near post. In spite of this, England now leads Wales 3-0 comfortably.
With 80 minutes remaining in the game, Wales is able to finally loosen the grip of the British as they start approaching the England goal, with attempts by Wilson and Colwil to score as a team. Wales isn’t able to score, though, due to poor execution and a rush to score.
Wales failed to score a goal throughout the game, which concluded after 7 minutes of extra time. Wales’ chances of qualifying for the knockout rounds were almost probably eliminated by England’s victory in this match, which they outperformed by a score of 3-0.
