Denmark and Tunisia faced off in the sixth game of the FIFA World Cup 2022 at the Education City Stadium in Al Rayyan. Denmark was the favourite to win the match since they were the more seasoned team and had a clear head-to-head advantage of 1-0 over Tunisia. After putting on their best performance at the 1998 World Cup, where they narrowly lost a hard-fought quarterfinal match against Brazil, Denmark has continued to be fairly competitive on the international stage. On the other hand, Tunisia hasn’t exactly had much success at the World Cup, as it has never been able to advance past the group stage.

Denmark took control of the game early on, but Tunisia remained competitive by responding just as well with their carefully thought-out counterattacks. Msakni, a forward from Tunisia, made the first attempt at scoring in the third minute, and Jebali made another attempt at it in the fifth, but Christensen stopped both shots with a powerful block.

In order to prevent Denmark from taking advantage of any opportunities, Tunisia kept solid ball control. Drager made another try to score for Tunisia at the 11-minute mark, but it was unsuccessful. Msakni had another opportunity to head one in from the ensuing corner, but that opportunity was also lost. Denmark was under increasing strain since they still hadn’t had a quality attempt at the goal after more than 20 minutes. Andersen made his first attempt to score for Denmark only in the 23rd minute, but it was unsuccessful.

Following a few fouls and missed goal attempts, the referee extended the first half by five minutes before blowing his whistle to end it. Both teams failed to score in the first half, leaving the score at 0-0. Despite all odds, Tunisia stunned everyone with their performance, overpowering Denmark and retaining the majority of the ball.

The second half started, and the Tunisians carried on from where they left off in the first. Msakni made a quick attempt to score again in the 46th minute, and Drager followed suit in the 51st. The players from Denmark easily cleared the ball as Tunisia continued to attack the goal and earned three quick corners.

When Denmark finally had a great opportunity in the 53rd minute, it was the most anticipated moment of the game. The opening goal of the game for Denmark is scored by Mikkel Damsgaard after Andreas Skov Olsen easily slips one past the Tunisian defence. But because Damsgaard was offside, the worst thing that could have happened really did. In the additional eight minutes of extra time, the game continued to be back and forth, but neither team was able to score to secure a victory. At the conclusion of regulation, both sides’ scores were tied at 0-0.
